Can we agree now about the political value of the President's conciliatory posturing?
Outside of the effects, consequences, or benefits of the actual compromises made, there is obvious political capital in the President posturing as the conciliator-in-chief, as opposed to the entire republican membership's strategy of obstruction, division, and dismantling of the (tentative, disputable) progress made so far. As political strategy, it's a tried and tested method of attracting voter support for our party's pols and our initiatives. It remains to have that support translate into sound and effective policy, but it's certainly a great advantage to have the administration and our party seen by the majority of Americans as the most willing and ready to advance their concerns into action or law.
