Any GOP that says "Get a job"
should be forced to volunteer at an Unemployment office for a week. Since they like accountable results, if they fail to get more than 60 percent of the people they help a job, they have to stay working at that office.

1. Exactly. They disqualify themselves from saying unemployment & underemployment are problems. nt

3. I don't think I would want that type working at an Unemployment Office
My own experience going to that office, and seeing what the counselors do includes them listening to people's problems, people often broke in the wallet and broken in spirit, people who need compassion, and someone to listen to for a few minutes, people that need their egos built up a little. "Pull yourself up by the bootstraps, hippie" and a right wing rant is not what such unemployed people need.

Such a "Get A Job" GOPer would probably have a WORSE record than other counselors, because they would be demoralizing their clients!

4. My husband's place of work closed last March.
He was 66 when it closed, and we had been planning retirement. He turned 67 six months later. It was his decision to stay and see things through until the entire business closed down.

Not everyone is as lucky as he was. We have retirement income, and other income, too. We are not rich, but things have worked out as we planned.

Recently, he went back to a jobs program, where some retraining opportunities were being offered. He was not interested so much for himself. He wanted to see how some of his old friends were doing.

It was awful. There were four hundred people there. Some of them are very skilled workers. One of them told my husband that he has been everywhere, and no one gives a damn. He has never met so many uncaring, rude people in his life. Of course, he is one of the older workers, in his mid-fifties. He is not really old enough to retire, nor ready for it. He needs the income.

Let these goopers make the rounds with a few nice guys like the one I described above. Let them have their eyes opened.

I have a feeling that in their private thoughts, some of the brighter ones know the truth. There are no jobs. No one is hiring.

5. and worse
They do NOT give a damn. A lot of it is also racial arrogance, they think THEY can never be replaced. It is going to be fun when the 1% have a lot of Asian members that are just as ruthless as any of our New England faux royals.

7. I was 47 yrs old when the factory closed the doors. My son was in college
at that time and I promised him if I gave him one thing in life it would be a quality education. The place where my wife worked at closed their doors one month after mine did.

So I went to truck driving school and learned how to drive a truck. I hated going over the road and being away from home, but I had to do it to gain experience before I was able to land a local driving job. This all happened 13 years ago and I'm still driving today.

I have learned though that not everybody can drive a truck and it takes years of experience before you feel comfortable driving one.
