Have you noticed that OWS is really pissing off the Fascists?

On other forums and message-boards there is screeching and gnashing of teeth the likes of which I haven't seen lately coming from the Reich-wing.
They are blistering their hands clapping, and going hoarse cheering, for the jackbooted thugs as they pepper spray and beat on Americans.

It's like some weird, violent, psycho-sexual perversion expressing itself in this glee that they are bubbling over with.

i check the comment sections in the newspapers. the larger newspapers have dedicated posters who take delight in the thugs beating up people. my local paper has a few teabag types who don`t understand the ows or are just like the guy who calls public schools "government schools".

my window installer and i had a long conversation about his belief in the tea party and my belief in the ows movement. it boiled down to we both agree that both sides need to work closer together against the one percent. he did`t like obama but there was no republican he liked. the republicans are in deep trouble if the democrats can get their message out.that means one person at a time.

Since the right doesn't like OWS, they are all too happy to cheer when they are met with violence from the police. But it's just the latest manifestation of a tendency that's always been there and not at all confined to the right.

Witness these DU threads from two years ago, right after Silvio Berlusconi was assaulted by a mentally ill man in Milan (early reports said he was punched, but he was actually hit by a small metal object):

There a couple voices on each chiding the other posters, but the most posters seem to be cheering on the attack. One such pro-violence post is from a user who has apparently since been tapped as a mod.

This is what scares me so much about demonizing and dehumanizing one's opponents because of their ideology. The more convinced you are that Republicans are fascists or that OWS protesters are dirty scum, the less likely you are to oppose violence against them. This is why I try hard to never dehumanize those I disagree with. It really is a slippery slope.
