"It should have our collective blood boiling, whether or not we even agree with the protesters"
This is our pivotal moment, much like the quote someone mentioned in another thread "At long last, have you left no sense of decency"

This is our chance to wake the last holdouts in denial.

This is the issue/picture to bring to Thanksgiving to finally wake up the crazy cousin. If they support this behavior, you can then shame them in front of the entire family.

Now is the time for everyone to get off of the fence...we need to know who is on what side...

4. I believe Barbara Lee, Dennis Kucinich and Bernie Sanders have made statements..
Condemning violence against peaceful protesters.

That was in the wake of the Scott Olsen head shot..

6. I think you're correct.
I sort of remember something being said by Sanders but not the other two. They probably did speak out.

16. They should be speaking out every day
They should be speaking in Congress, getting these atrocities on congressional record.

Kucinich use to do a lot more of this, but he seems to be quiet as of late.

If they have seen the picture...

Is the corporate media covering this at all? Are they justifying it?

35. They'll count on that short attention span, LOL! Another Davis thread shows what Rush was saying...
Edited on Mon Nov-21-11 06:06 PM by freshwest
Just before the assault there. Probably Pike was all geared up from a morning of hate radio. And remember, Rush is on the Armed Forces Network, or whatever it's technically called. A number of police are returning veterans. They were exposed to it, his views were made to appear mainstream and popular. BTW, welcome to DU.

9. I don't know about you, but I have never seen anything like OWS before
WE are in uncharted waters, and things are looking up to me. I have fought for this for ten years, prayed for something as divine as this uprising. I am in heaven!

And these activists that put their bodies on the line like this, just to show the world what this country has come to....they are our saints! God Bless em!

10. I'm not always in agreement
with the tactics of the protesters (although I do agree with their principles), but this is outrageous.

I will defend the cops IF I think they have done no wrong, but this is just plain wrong.

11. That quote came from a Forbes reporter.
http://journals.democraticunderground.com/sabrina%201/270

He was not exactly all that supportive of the movement, but is appalled at the brutality of the police and he even went so far as to admit that the 'protesters have been peaceful'.

36. Those aren't real cops.
Cops these days have to take college courses to become police officers. The writing style is too poor, too emotional and too disorganized to be the real thing. These are most likely security guards who couldn't make the cut.

26. The right to assemble guaranteed by the "Bill of Rights" -
The following is a transcription of the first 10 amendments to the United States Constitution. Called the "Bill of Rights", these amendments were ratified on December 15, 1791. Each amendment's title is linked to a set of detailed annotations presented on the Findlaw website.

Freedom of Speech, Press, Religion and Petition
Right to keep and bear arms
Conditions for quarters of soldiers
Right of search and seizure regulated
Provisons concerning prosecution
Right to a speedy trial, witnesses, etc.
Right to a trial by jury
Excessive bail, cruel punishment
Rule of construction of Constitution
Rights of the States under Constitution

Freedom of Speech, Press, Religion and Petition

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press;

or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

http://www.ratical.org/co-globalize/BillOfRights.html

How dare they even try to deny the right of peaceful assembly! They should realize they only empower the determination & intention of "WE the people"....maybe the police like the idea of cutting benefits and wages of the working class unions that represent them, this display of ignorance & lack of empathy is to their own folly.
