I was trying to get an understanding of the disease and ran into this, it's rather interesting.

11. Schizoid is not at all the same thing as schizophrenic.

"Schizoid" as it is used in the DSM refers to a specific personality disorder marked by a lack of interest in social relationships, being a loner, etc. No hallucinations, no delusions, no disorganized speech, just a profound lack of intrest in social contact. "Schizotypal" Personality Disorder, on the other hand, has many of the features of schizophrenia, but in a milder form, eh*?

9. I've had similar frustration trying to see a figure two dimensionally

in order to break it down into light and shawdow to draw it. Most of the time I give up and draw as if I'm drawing in three dimensions., i.e., as if paper is clay. :crazy:

Surface features on, e.g., the Moon and Mars can appear inside-out after even a few minutes of viewing. (And this is independent of the pareidolia that explains the Face-on-Mars phenomenon.)

You can train yourself to see the illusion both ways; it's the first-take that counts.

14. In watching the video of the Charlie Chaplin head, it rotates clockwise

until the full backside comes into view and the illusion is that it is concave and at that moment the movement reverses so that the head appears to be moving counterclockwise until the front face appears again.

. . .the nose appears to be pointing out only when we at a nearly 90 degree angle and then just for a split second as the head turns toward zero degrees, which i think is more reflection and shadows than any psychological phenomenon.

I'm suspicious of these conclusions.

I know she has had trouble with impaired proverb interpretation that most non-schizophrenics can grasp the meaning such as "don't judge a book by its cover" or "don't count your chickens before they hatch".

The NIH says it's a one in ten type deal where you inherit it. Well, I guess I don't have it. But this is not a hard test. When they use this in practice, it will be more conclusive.

I wonder if the schizophrenics they used were medication naive or on medication?

So:
Yes on the bi-polar.
No on the schizo.

Plus, I go to a doctor for this on a regular basis, and I'd hope he'd pick up on it somewhere along the line.

This might almost pass as a form of medical advice. Their experiment involved a very small sample size. Until it is done on a larger scale it is not wise to pass this off as some type of test. It is very interesting though. Thank you for sharing this with us.

I have before seen this illusion and I guess if it really does show some link between the illness and whether or not you see the illusion, I did see the illusion like non-schizophrenic folks are supposed to.

I'd never heard that it was possible for some people not to see the illusion.
