Occupy L.A. Eviction: Is LAPD Restricting Coverage With Last-Minute 'Pool Media'?
Updated at the bottom with a full list of the chosen news outlets. Also: If the LAPD doesn't lift media restrictions, the ACLU plans to file an injunction against them.
Creating limited media pools at high-profile, heavily policed events isn't an uncommon practice at the Los Angeles Police Department.

"When we don't have resources to accomodate every single outlet that wants to be there, we often do that," says Officer Karen Rayner in the media-relations office.

But a last-minute email to the LAPD's press list last night -- saying "any outlet interested in being considered for the pool must have a representative attend this meeting, no exceptions" -- has raised some concerns among smaller-time reporters covering Occupy L.A.

9. Can't let just anybody report the news. Reporters need a sense of citizenship above reproach

You need to seek out and groom "team players" in the media who're eager to get on board for the big win. You can't have people in there reporting inflammatory stuff, stuff that dings the authorities just to sell newspapers. You need responsible, civic-minded individuals who know how to merge themselves in the coordinated effort to maintain law and order, who understand that their role is to assist not obstruct the lawful authorities and to explain to the people that what is being done is for the best and for the good of all.

12. Is there a law against RC helicopters with cameras viewing the public?
It seems to me that it wouldn't take THAT much tech to report really thoroughly on these things with no overt signs of "reporters" being visible.

Of course, "reporters" would give up their immunity to arrest and beatings, but they've already lost that anyways.
