nice article in "Der Spiegel" about the republican candidates (german only)
http://www.spiegel.de/politik/ausland/0,1518,800494,00.html

title: "Club of Liars, Demagogues, Ignorants"

"Der Spiegel" is normally far to soft and benevolent on the republican party (trying to be fair and balanced on foreign issues?) but this article is refreshing. I particularly liked the conclusion at the end, comparing the republican election campaign to a reality-show. "a pseudo-political equivalent to Paris Hilton, Kim Kardashian and those casting-shows which poisoned TV: The more crude, the more ridiculous, the more stupid - the more lucrative."

6. You shouldn't translate "scandal noodle" too literal. ;-)

"noodle"/"Nudel" has more meanings in german than just the food. In rarer instances it describes a piece of dough or a ridiculous female person.

7. it can mean a fool in English too, but not specifically female
noodle
"narrow strip of dried dough," 1779, from Ger. Nudel, of unknown origin. W.Flem. noedel and Fr. nouille are Ger. loan-words. The older noun meaning "simpleton, stupid person" (1753) probably is an unrelated word, as is the slang word for "head" (attested from 1914).

I just think it's a great description!

U.S. Republicans
Club of liars, demagogues, ignorant

Sure, go on the road to the White House always all kinds of wrong. Patzer, Schnitzer, embarrassments: No campaign would do without them. And this time it would all certainly very funny - if one were not laughing long stuck in the throat.

Because these eight would-be candidates are happily ruining not only her own reputation and that of her party, the party once worthy of Abraham Lincoln . They ruin the reputation of the United States.

They lie, feign bluster and talk so silly stuff. And they prove a political, economic, geographical and historical ignorance that George W. Bush appear as a scholar and cringe even friends can party. "When has the GOP lost touch with reality?" Said flabbergasted Ex-Bush speechwriter David Frum in the "New York Magazine." Ronald Reagan's chief of staff Kenneth Duberstein speaks of a reality show, columnist Peggy Noonan ("Wall Street Journal"), even from a freak show.

The latter makes it probably the best.

Platitudes instead of program: In serious times require that brains, wit, these figures only waffle, insulting the intelligence of all Americans actually would. But like all these freak shows would also be unthinkable without their stage (the sheer political correctness almost obsessively neutral U.S. media) and their receptive audience (the overnight apparently stupefied party basis). Despite the subterranean levels of this primary campaign press and TV stations one clown after another cheer for the new runner up in pretty reliable news cycles of 45 days.

5. *snort* The caption for the photo is worth clicking on the link alone.
U.S. Republicans
Club of liars, demagogues, ignorant

A reality show full of awkward moments do the U.S. Republicans in their primaries forward with ignorance, lies and scandals, notes SPIEGEL ONLINE correspondent Marc Pitzke. The party ruined the reputation of the country - and even has to fear the comeback of the ultimate scandal noodle.

9. Wow. That was a brutal (and truthful) beatdown
and from a mainstream, establishment European paper. This is the way the rest of the world sees this collection of morans, so why can't people here wake up? Huntsman is the only one who could ever be taken seriously and he's tail-end Charlie in the polls.
