(?): Bail on OccupyLA arrests last night set at $5,000
RT: "Update: Those arrested at Occupy LA today are facing $5000 bail to be released; strategic psychological warfare against future protests."

WTF?!

Is trespassing/unlawful assembly a violation or a misdemeanor in California?

1. heard on Oakfosho's live feed it's a misdemeanor and if they have a bail bondsman

2. They don't have the space to hold them. Maybe call their bluff?
Even the Dr. who purportedly killed Michael Jackson apparently won't have to serve his full term due to overcrowding at the jails.

4. All I heard yesterday was about how the LA County jail can't hold people
for any length of time, yet they have resources to set bail for non-violent protesters at $5000? Yeesh.

5. En masse they should all refuse to pay it.
And more and more people should keep reoccupying the area.

This will either bankrupt the police or stop them.

11. I agree, stressing the system until it fails makes sense, but
it's pretty easy for me to say that...I'm not one of those being asked to endorse that belief by sleeping in jail.

14. It's not so bad...
Most of our processing/booking officers were 'off the record' supportive of what we are doing.

7. That's what I would do.
the last time I spent a night in jail, there were 6 people in a four person cell. Two slept on a pad on the floor.

8. The OWS movement has cost all sorts of municipalities
all sorts of dough to already strained budgets. Instead of putting exorbitant costs on the peaceful protesters I wish the cities would start a class action suit against the CEO's of Wall Street.

dream on I will

10. For camping on the lawn at City Hall?
I haven't been to L.A. for a long time; it's been even longer since I lived there. But I do remember people camping on the lawn, lots of blankets spread out, sleeping bags and pup tents of the homeless, and this was many years ago.

19. there are thosudnasd of homeless camped out on the streets downtown, but this was
in front of city hall. The powers that be would love to move the occupiers to a place where they can not be heard.
they actually tried to buy out the occupation with an office space.

Edited on Wed Nov-30-11 09:07 AM by lunatica
It's not a bad idea to get the OWS cause into the court system and take it all the way to the Supreme Court if necessary. I would go to jail to do it.

The OWS has many avenues to pursue. This is one of them.

Let's get pervasive, just like the corruption.

Every single one of us are taking our arrests to trial.

Legal team is persuing much, much more after the trials.

The OWS can do something in every aspect of this country. There's a lot of us.

You have my complete support and I hope you keep us apprised.

16. I was afraid they would start this kind of thing
I would say call their bluff. Occupy the Jails. Stay as long as you can. If the jails are already full of us, then where will they put the next group?

I say from now on, expect this kind of thing. Only those who are able to stay for a longer period should risk arrest.

or, hopefully the legal team will have better advice.
