Will the Republicans vote to repeal the payroll tax cut ?

Of course they will. I saw Grover Norquist on CNN yesterday. He explained that he had given the Republican Senators and Congressmen his special permission to vote to repeal the payroll tax cut.

He said he had patted them on the head -- scratched their stomachs -- and told them they had done a good job blocking "real" tax increases by the Super Committee. While they were panting with appreciation -- he tossed them a bone. They could now vote to raise the payroll taxes on the working class.

As long as they got their master's permission -- there is nothing we can do about it. It's not like the desires of American voters can have as much influence with our Congressmen -- as Grover's does.

After all, their strategy is to starve the entitlements. What better way to do so than cutting the payroll tax?

3. The payroll tax cut doesn't "starve entitlements" though. Social Security still takes in the money.

4. True, but in that way it's still a tax cut

And by their 'logic' all tax cuts starve the beast. Cutting payroll taxes temporarily paves the way to making such cuts permanent.

I think what they are most afraid of is the precedent that money from the general fund can find its way to SS, which means that everyone and not just workers will be supporting the program.

Their ideology is simple. Whatever the Democrats are for, they are against. Makes things much easier when you have to justify your positions with logic and reason.
