BALTIMORE (AP) — City officials have denied Occupy Baltimore’s request for a permit to remain in a downtown plaza where they have been living for two months.
Group representatives submitted the application last week to continue a protest with 25 to 300 people in McKeldin Square through April.
Parks and Recreation Director Gregory Bayor notes in the denial letter this week that the department cannot approve permits longer than five days and permits have already been granted to others during the period requested. He also notes that assemblies of more than 150 are prohibited.
The city also rejected the group’s request to have four large tents, up to 40 personal tents and a 24-hour encampment in a park where activities are only allowed between 8 a.m. and 11 p.m.
Baltimore mayor, Democrat Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, has appeared tolerant. but today the heat's being turned up a notch. In that the mayor is a second generation politician from a prominent political family, it shall not surprise me one iota to see her cave and serve The Good People in any way they wish.
