OWS: target the Shopping Malls with Song
:: What I think is needed is not an idea like sleeping in the park that is civil disobedience, but that

1. won't shut down traffic, schools or other facilities that the 99% rely on

2. is better suited to the season than sleeping outdoors.

:: The target of choice right now might as well be the SHOPPING MALL because:

1. That's where lots of folks will be between now and Christmas

2. It's warm inside of them.

3. The INSIDE of the malls are OUTSIDE of the Bill of Rights so it is unbelievably easy to practice civil disobedience inside of them.

(Although the common areas of Shopping Malls function as public spaces they are considered private property so we lose our right to freedom of assembly or speech when we enter them.)

Conclusion:

Shutting down or interfering in any unpleasant way with the customers inside of Shopping Malls would be a BIG mistake. However, gathering without permission to SING union songs, OWS songs and re-worded secular Santa songs while ILLEGAL and FUN would entertain and inspire rather then alienate. Passing out the lyrics to such songs would also be illegal.

Anybody feel like re-writing Rudolph?

1. This reminds me of Rev Billy and the Church of Stop Shopping's video "What would Jesus Buy?"
They have some great songs. I think your idea is excellent as it would keep the PTB scrambling.

2. Why "inside" the shopping mall and not right outside the doors?

It is still private property but would not directly interfere with people shopping. It would not be as warm but you could always take a short break and head for the Cinnabar or the public restrooms.

as for rewriting Rudolph:

Gingrich, the red-nosed cheater
had a very loving wife.
And if you were at their wedding,
you saw him swear to her for life.

Then when the poor girl got sick
he moved onto someone else.
he broke his marital vows
and for that he will burn in hell.

Then when that one got sick too
Gingrich came to say:
"I'm going to leave you here to die,
I don't think you need to ask why"

Then all the Republicans scorned him
as they shouted out in fear,
Gingrich the red-nosed cheater,
you can no longer be speaker !

OK, fine... consider it a work in progress.
