TUCSON, Ariz. — U.S. Representative Gabrielle Giffords has left a Tucson hospital for a rehab center in Texas, less than two weeks after being shot in the head in an assassination attempt that killed six.
Giffords is traveling by ambulance to Davis-Monthan Air Force Base with an escort from a group of motorcycle riders from a Veterans of Foreign Wars post who know her.
From there, she'll be taken by medical flight to a Houston airport.
Then she'll be moved by helicopter to the ICU at Texas Medical Center, where she'll be evaluated and then taken to the center's rehabilitation hospital, the TIRR Memorial Hermann Institute for Rehabilitation and Research, a world-class facility that treats people for conditions ranging from brain and spinal cord injury to multiple sclerosis and Parkinson's disease.
