TAMPA - All eyes are on Hillsborough County as educators from across the state gather for a two-day conference on how to make students more successful.

Superintendents are sitting next to teacher union representatives to tackle education reform.

"Everybody gets that our schools have to do a better job. None of us are going to be satisfied unless 100 percent of the kids are able to fulfill their God-given potential," said Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers.

The governor was invited to attend the conference, but declined the invitation.

His priorities do not seem to involve our kids reaching their potential.

2. I'm sure he'll read all the reports
Just like George W. Bush did after the big economic summit in Waco. Sadly, George had to leave that get-together after about 45 minutes, but promised that he'd be carefully studying all of the reports from all of the meetings that day. And what a meeting it was! I'm sure we all remember where we were and what we were doing during that one-day summit in Waco, right? Sort of the moon landing day of the Bush administration.

3. That is the Bill Gates county...gave them 100 million to do things his way.
They are doing everything according to Gates and getting all the publicity that counties doing just as good jobs are not getting.

It pays to be rich.

5. They said the same thing to my generation
This is not new.

For many of us, however, it's a calling and not just a job.

I can't imagine doing anything else.

6. IMO, because none of this is about education.
It's all about who is going to make money, allowing CMOs to take over and make a profit in the education industry. I'm sure several of these "reform" jerks are getting bored of keeping up the illusion that it is about anything else.
