6. Carter's approval ratings were low for quite some time before the 1980 election.

Ted Kennedy's primary challenge to Carter showed how many Democrats did not want to re-elect Carter. Things could change, but right now it doesn't look like Obama will face any threatening primary challenge in 2012.

Reagan also didn't have as many embarrassing statements in his past, and as an actor, he was good at playing to the camera.

I think it's far more likely that Obama does as well as Reagan in 1980 before Bachmann will.

I don't recall any House members ever getting any real traction in a run for the White House. Gephardt was the last one I personally can recall even trying it, although I'm sure there have been other semi-serious candidates (and, of course, Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich).

I wouldn't worry too much about her getting too far. But, this is Crazyland anymore, so who knows. Probably more likely to get a Mooselini-Bachmann dual run. Birds of a feather flock together, especially delusional fascist ones.
