Marriott says no to adult movies in new hotels

Marriott International, one of the nation's leading hotel groups, says it's pulling access to adult movies from new hotel rooms it will open in the next several years.

Marriott says its decision coincides with a pending shift to new in-room entertainment technology for its new hotels. Traditional video systems, which included access to adult content displayed in the menu selection, will be replaced by Internet-based video-on-demand systems.

But the decision also comes after years of discussing whether the availability of lucrative adult films in guest rooms is appropriate and whether safeguards exist to prevent children from seeing it.

3. The price of those movies, I don't see any loss.

Traveling on business, you dare not put a movie on your expense report or you will be tagged for watching porn on company dime.

And since you are traveling business, everything you do in your room, room service, movies, mini bar or what ever gets charged to your company credit card and posted on the invoice.

With them gone, maybe a guy can watch a movie he has not had time to rent or go to the theater to see without worrying about what it will look like when he gets back to the office.

I stay in Marriotts probably once or two nights per week every (for 11 years.) Nearly every room I'm in has MSNBC in addition to FOx News and CNN. I rarely miss my evening MSNBC Shows.

Leave Mormon Bibles or Jehovah Witness material in the rooms. I wonder how many hotel visitors would be upset?

I haven't seen a Jewish/Christist Bible in a hotel room in a long time.

I have found "Books of Mormon" in several hotels, and not only in AZ and UT.

Once there was a very nice hardbound "Teaching of Buddha", which I kept.

8. I stayed at the Marriott in Falls Church, VA after visiting DC

that Marriott had some HDTV channels and had both Fox News and MSNBC (both in SD though). IIRC also some pay-per-view entertainment too. And this could be a wise business decision: does the core demographic of Marriott guests (married couples, families perhaps) have a compelling interest in raunchy, low-grade porno?
