America is her people and her Constitution.
The rest is just real estate.
It is pretty fantastic real esate, to be sure, but it is the people and principles of a nation that make its birth worth celebrating.
In Boston, we celebrate America's birthday for about a week (coincidentally, the minimum time I recommend for celebrating your own birthday).
http://events.bostonusa.com/harborfest/http://www.bostonusa.com//visit/bostoneveryday/be/special-eventsThis July 4 has some special significance for Boston because of the USS Constitution, which is docked here and makes a turnaround cruise every July 4.
http://www.history.navy.mil/ussconstitution/This year is the bicentennial of the War of 1812. So, today, Tall Ships are in Boston's huge harbor to honor the drop dead gorgeous old girl, even though she never gets to leave Boston harbor to honor them. More significantly, IMO, 25 immigrants will be sworn into U.S. citizenship on her deck today.
Enjoy today, wherever you will celebrate--and y'all come to Boston some year to celebrate the week of 4th here. It's really kinda special.
Happy birthday, America!
