Brian Williams to Mitt Romney: Enjoy the Softballs!

I'm a big Brian Williams fan (normally) but I cannot believe he had no follow-ups for Mitt Romney when he hit him with his own words regarding his assault weapons ban in MA: Willard Mitt Romney: "These guns are not made for recreation or self-defense. They are instruments of destruction with the sole purpose of hunting down and killing people." Romney of course gave some both-sides-of-his-mouth answer about upholding 2nd Amendment rights while protecting people.

Brian Williams: "Let's move on."

Please tell me the web version of this interview gets better.

2. Ah, yes, the Tim Russert tricks.

Russert used to insist that he asked both side tough questions. Yes, he did. The huge difference came in the follow up, if any.

For Republicans, it was more like Russert brought up the issue so they could give their side of it. Once they had done that, they either got a meatball follow up in which Russet helped them out more or semi agreed with them, or Russert simply moved on to the next question.

For a Democrat, it was much, much different, especially if that Democrat was Ted Kennedy. Russert was downright abusive with him. I thought the same of his first interview with Obama, after Obama had declared for the Presidency. His first two questions to Obama, on which he wasted about twenty minutes, were to get Obama to defend--wait for it--comments made by Harry Belafonte about Bush or Republicans in general. Nothing racist about that!

And MTP shot almost an entire interview with Biden from the back, specifically from Biden's bald spot, with an occasional switch to the front of his hairline.

I used to email MTP almost every week. That week, I pointed out how bizarre it was to shoot an interview from the back of a guest's head and suggested that they simply use a crawl at the bottom of the screen next time, asking if viewers really trust someone with a misleading hairline. That would be bizarre too, but at least we'd be able to see Biden's facial expressiona and demeanor, which is more normal in an interview.

I'm sure they looked forward to hearing from me!

4. This sort of shit is so commonplace

that viewer would be more likely to notice it if it suddenly became "fair and balanced". This kind of treatment of Democrats and liberals goes way back.
