KUTUM, Sudan, Aug. 10 (UPI) -- Many of the
25,000 people driven from a refugee camp in the Darfur region of Sudan are without water and food, U.N. workers said Friday.
A U.N. agency said the Kassab camp has been abandoned because of fighting between the government and tribal groups that began 10 days ago, CNN reported. The residents are in Kutum, a nearby town, or in the Kariba area and have
no facilities for food, water and sanitation.<snip>
Cycmanick said there has been an "uptick in criminal activity" in Darfur, although the region has calmed somewhat since the worst of the fighting there made it an international cause. But he said violence continues even though the news media and international community are now more interested in South Sudan, which recently became independent, and the uprisings in Libya, Syria and other Arab countries.

JERUSALEM, Aug. 10 (UPI) -- An Israeli court upheld the decision to evict 1,500 villagers from Palestinian settlements in the South Hebron Hills in the West Bank.
The High Court of Justice on Thursday sided with a state order to demolish eight unauthorized Palestinian villages in the South Hebron Hills located in an Israeli military firing zone, The Jerusalem Post reported.
The court said the villagers could remain in their homes until November.

The original petition involved 12 villages, but in July the Israeli Defense Ministry said it would allow four of the villages to use a portion of the firing zone for their homes.

A U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs report said that, since 2010, 45 percent of demolitions of Palestinian-owned structures in one area of the West Bank have occurred in firing zones. About 820 Palestinians were displaced, the report said.
