‘Honey Boo Boo’ beats GOP in cable ratings

"The fourth episode of TLC‘s “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo,” a show that makes “Jersey Shore” look like “Masterpiece Classic,” drew more viewers in the 18-49 age group on Wednesday night than the second full night of the Republican National Convention.

According to the overnight ratings, “Honey Boo Boo” pulled a 1.3 overall rating, according to Nielsen, with 2.9 million viewers. The show also topped every other cable offering Wednesday night, including cable news channels covering the GOP convention.

What that tells me is either that “Honey Boo Boo” is heavily favored by Democratic viewers, or that Republicans are more interested in watching a pudgy child make her stomach folds “talk” than listening to vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan discuss why the GOP team is a better choice than Obama.

“Here Comes Honey Boo Boo” is a spin-off of TLC’s “Toddlers & Tiaras.”
