SIOUX FALLS, S.D., Oct. 17 (UPI) -- Ex-Sen. George McGovern, who lost the 1972 presidential race to Richard Nixon, was no longer responsive at a South Dakota hospice, an official said Wednesday.

<snip>

The hospital statement said McGovern, 90, was admitted to the hospice Monday with a combination of medical conditions, due to age, that have worsened in recent months.

Just over a week ago, McGovern had appeared at the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra's opening night performance, where he narrated Aaron Copland's "Lincoln Portrait," the newspaper said Monday.

He has had health issues in the past year, however. A year ago, he was hospitalized for exhaustion after speaking at three universities in Europe, and on Dec. 2 he fell and suffered a head injury while walking to the set of a live television broadcast. He was hospitalized in Florida in April after fainting a couple of times.

McGovern, the son of a minister who grew up in Mitchell, flew 35 bomber missions over Europe in World War II before becoming a college history professor and politician.

He served three terms in the U.S. Senate after two terms in the U.S. House of Representatives.

1. My vote cast for Senator McGovern
was the first vote I ever cast.

He should never have been denied the presidency. But he was truthful about war, he lived it up close and personal. He was no CHICKENHAWK full of empty bluster like Nixon, Reagan and Bush Jr the dummie. He had more integrity in his pinky fingernail than Nixon had in his entire body.

2.  Just read some of his wiki. The Party did not support him.
I guess that was the start of the nation's ever rightward motion.

3. You are correct.
It was a push back against the dirty hippie commies. Just imagine not embracing a completely unnecessary, destructive, counterproductive and expensive war. What was wrong with those people? Well, just look at them and they are on drugs.

This rightward push has been going on ever since. War has become the national past time in exactly the style of the Vietnam War except for the all-voluntary military. That all-volunteer military was a stroke of genius for the chickenhawks and profiteers. Or is that redundant?

Apparently "they" studied the anti-war problem thoroughly. The nation has moved rightward until we are now on the brink of goose stepping. There is no left wing counter balance as in 1920s Germany so there is no violent opposition. This "takeover"/transformation is proceeding smoothly but at a slower pace. Just fucking wonderful.

I suspect the same ones fostering this transformation are sons and daughters of those that thought Hitler was a "smart man" and had some "good ideas". Well, it's right in your face if you just look at it. You know what someone said about history and forgetting. Don't even suggest to me that the nation has not been intentionally dummed down.

My rant of the day.
