You will have to excuse me because, aside from George Will, I don't remember who said what. I just remember the gist of what was said, though not the exact words.
Someone on This Week:
"What if Romney wins the electoral vote, but not the popular vote?"
Not surprisingly, George Will did not see this as a potential problem.
He said we have had a total of 57(?) elections and, of all the elections we have ever had, only 4 suffered that fate--and he ticked them off. To his credit, he correctly identified 2000 as an election in which Gore won the popular vote (though that means that Bush won neither the popular vote nor the electoral vote, but, again, not surprising, Will did not mention that detail).
Someone on This Week:
"But, George, I think the election of 2000 did a lot of damage to this country. It's why we have what I call a Cold Civil War."
Huh?
Yes, perhaps the election of 2000 did a lot of damage to this country.
But we have a Cold Civil War because the Republicans decided to have one.
That is not the fault of the election of 2000. Had the Cold Civil War been the result of the 2000 election, it would have been the Democrats stonewalling Bush and the Republicans 100% of the time.
If Reed gets control of the Senate in January and AGAIN fails to repeal the 60 vote rule at the start of the session, he should be tarred and feathered--by Democratic voters!
