Sheila Bair, former head of the FDIC, is the first Republican who made sense to me.

She was on the Charlie Rose show yesterday, talking about her book, repeal of Glass-Steagall, failure of Bear Stearns and Lehman Bros., the current "recovery," all the familiar stuff, but talking about it from a place that made sense to me.

She disagreed with fellow Republicans Paulson and Geithner about the bailout and almost all of it; and she has crossed party lines to endorse Elizabeth Warren.

Her appointment at the FDIC was up last year. I don't know if Obama did not want to re-appoint her, or if she did not want to stay. She has been in government since 1993.

She now has a position with the Pew Charitable Trusts. (Acting Chief of the FDIC right now is a guy who played a large role in repeal of Glass Steagall and was acting chief before she became chief.)

I tried to see if I could link you all to a podcast, but I could only find shows via the PBS website through October 23 and his website is down. A footnote to her wiki links to Rose's website, so, if you are interested, you can try that link, say, next week and see if it is functioning. I do highly recommend the program.

FWIW, I don't think anyone that is in opposition to reinstating Glass-Steagal is reasonable. I mean, the evidence is in.

I would DVR Charlie but my Time Warner media guide doesn't tell me the name of the guests. Sometimes I will DVR Tavis Smiley because the guide lets us know.

2. What Bair said about Glass Steagall:

Legislation to reinstate it has to be more nuanced than just a reinstatement without more because Glass Steagall actually permitted some of the shenanigans that caused the 2008 collapse {though it would have prevented many}.

So, according to that interview, she is for reinstatement of Glass Steagall-- and then some, to close whatever loopholes that, in her opinion, Glass Steagall had.

As indicated in my OP, the Charlie Rose show on pbs does have its own website, though it is down right now. www.charlierose.com Maybe that would list the guests?
