In the final days of a caustic campaign marked by negative ads, more than $1 billion in spending and the direct impact of a close White House race between President Barack Obama and Republican Mitt Romney, Democrats who were once considered a sure-fire bet to lose the Senate were upbeat about flipping Republican seats in Maine and Massachusetts and holding most of the 23 seats they're defending this year.

The mouth of Akin really helped Dems, I think, including Obama. And, Mourdock's more recent statements conveniently kept the momentum going almost to election day.

Romney mads one ad for a Republican down ticket--and it was for the guy who got outed for his extremism. Mourdock! What are the odds? 535 to 1?

Mourdock's Democratic opponent is only slightly less extreme, but perhaps this will be a lesson to Donnelly about religious views and government.


This will really be the election of the woman, meaning that men and women who care about women's rights really recoiled from the Republican.

The only scary thing at this point for me is the voting machines, especially the ones in Ohio in which Tagg Romney has an interest. (What an odd thing for the son of a Presidential candidate to purchase!)

I just hope both sides don't go back to ignoring women's rights after the election.

Yes, saying stupid things about rape, incest and abortion in public is just awful, but so are state and federal laws putting undue burdens on women's constitutional rights to privacy and choice.

I am hoping Democrats put their actions where there mouth has been since Akins put his foot in his mouth and Republicans get that their choice is between their extremism and their Congressional aspirations.

Finally, the article notes that both the Republican Party and the Democratic Party left their respective Senatorial candidates in New Mexico to fend for themselves. As you may recall, that happened the last time that Lieberman ran for the Senate as an indie. (And soon after, Lieberman stumped with Leslie Graham for McCain Palin).

If this story is true about Heinrich and his opponent is true, I wonder what the deal is in New Mexico? Anyone know?
