I have been trying to eliminated additives from my diet.

Even most organic cream tends to contain contain things like carrageenen, a carcinogenic that is, among other things, a non-meat alternative to gelatin.

Why? To make it whip better or faster or something.

You may get a cancer of the colon or ulcerative colitis, but just think that how much better your whipped cream will look or how many seconds with the electric mixer you will save.

As if people who are willing to spend more on organic cream want a carcinogenic in their cream because they are willing to risk physical problems for whipping speed or appearance.

Seriously, how effed up is our food industry, even the organic industry, apparently?

1. This issue really hits home for me.
I have celiac disease. We had successfully eliminated gluten from my diet until recently. Now I am sick from an unknown source of gluten. It might be hiding in one of my medications in the form of a binder. We are changing to non-generic medications one at a time in an effort to find the culprit. We have had no satisfactory results so far. And non-generic medications are extremely expensive.

2. been effed-up for a long time.
When I was a beginning Chem student, our class went for a tour of a major processed foods company laboratory. It's all about making a product that looks good, has a long shelf-life and addicts your taste buds. "You can't eat just one." is more than just an Ad.line.
I used to like Entemanns Pastries until I liked at the list of ingredients.

5. "Long shelf life" often translates to many carcinogenic ingredients.

I fear the only baked goods that have fewer are the ones you make at home and MAYBE the ones you buy at your local bakery, but even the local bakery is probably using some nasty ingredients, too.

Baking at home, you have to check the list of ingredients on every ingredient you use. And you should use whole wheat flour or at least unbleached, unbromated flour.


I check the ingredients on everything I buy, but, even then, you have to know things like, for example, rice contains arsenic.

4. As Dr. Christiane Northrup says, "Healthy, healthy, healthy, dead."
Meaning, the goal is doing whatever you have to do to be healthy, active, etc. until the last second, no matter how many years you live.



She does programs on women's health for PBS, in case you had not heard of her. However, she is New Age-y and therefor gets criticized.

No matter what, though, "Healthy, healthy, healthy, dead" is a great health goal.
