Obama Inaugural Panel to Take Unlimited Corporate Funds

President Barack Obama’s inaugural committee will accept unlimited donations from corporations and individuals, reversing his stance of four years ago.

After a presidential campaign that cost more than $2 billion in spending by candidates, political parties and political action committees, the inaugural committee is casting a wider net for contributions.

“Our goal is to make sure that we will meet the fundraising requirements for this civic event after the most expensive presidential campaign in history,” Addie Whisenant, spokeswoman for the Presidential Inaugural Committee, said in an e-mail.

The identities of all donors will be posted regularly on the committee’s website, she said. Lobbyists and political action committees won’t be allowed to contribute. Corporations with outstanding loans from the Troubled Asset Relief Program also will be prohibited from making donations.

Did a spokesperson for the Inaugural committee of a Democratic President actually brag about the most expensive Presidential campaign in history? And is that meant to imply that the re-election Inauguration should also be the most expensive in history?

On the bright side, I barely blink anymore when Obama reverses a previous stand.


Maybe they can use the 400 lb gingerbread houose for this occasion too as, you know, an economy measure.

Several years ago my wife and I thought we would embark on the task of making seasonal fruit cakes. Why we decided to do this has escaped my memory banks. My mother in law made fruit cakes every year before we lost her to cancer. Maybe that is why, can't remember.

Anyway, our fruit cakes were really quite excellent. Then, the celiac disease struck. Fuck. I had grown fond of fruit cake. At least our home-made ones. Oh well, our oven doesn't work anyway.
