Maine same-sex couples marry in first hours of law

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) -- Arriving in a limo, Donna Galluzzo and Lisa Gorney had all the trappings of a traditional wedding: Rings, flowers, wedding vows, an entourage and a friend to officiate.

With tears in their eyes, they were among the first gay couples to exchange wedding vows early Saturday morning after Maine's same-sex marriage law went into effect at midnight.

One shoveful at a time, humans are ridding ourselves of millenia of crap.

It's enough to make the biggest cynic believe that people can evolve into human beings, though some of us may do so more slowly than others.

1. how exciting for them! yes, we're getting rid of crap in some states, and adding more in others!

Kansas is a place I'd rather never go in again, for example. LOL

3. There has been crap about gay people for thousands of years longer than there have been states.

On the one hand, it's disgusting that it has taken this long for the needle to move, even a little.

On the other hand, it's a miracle that a needle that has been stuck for thousands of years moved at all.

I am going to focus on the miracle, although i know that is a lot easier for me to say than for someone who is gay.

When my son was a baby, I saved his pediatrician's letter about ssthma, just in case the draft ever got reinstated. And, i resolved then to move out of the country (with him, of course) if he ever got drafted anyway.

If i were the mom of a gay child, I would have moved my family into Massachusetts the day the Supreme Court decision became final. And, failing that, i would have moved to a country where discriminating against gays was illegal.

Hmmm. i wonder what Luxemborg's immigration policy is?
