Government tells all computer users to disable Java.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is advising people to temporarily disable the Java software on their computers to avoid potential hacking attacks.

The recommendation came in an advisory issued late Thursday, following up on concerns raised by computer security experts.

Experts believe hackers have found a flaw in Java's coding that creates an opening for criminal activity and other high-tech mischief.

Java is a widely used technical language that allows computer programmers to write a wide variety of Internet applications and other software programs that can run on just about any computer's operating system.

I did that a few weeks ago and keep getting "update" noticces that are actually attempts to try to re-install it. I don't like companies' having access to my computer without my consent to annoy me without even telling me what they seek to do.

5. You can google instructions for disabling Java or you can go to the control panel

icon in your computer. (If you need help finding it, pm me.)

In my version of windows, I can search the control panel for add/remove programs. You will come up with a lost of many of the programs on your computer. You should find Java in there, either under Java or Oracle or Sun. When you find it, click remove.

Another way to go is to use the search feature, but, first, try the above.
