I remember hearing the Oscar nominations while still half asleep. I don't even know which station was on or which movie expert was sitting next to the anchor. But, the conversation went something like this.
Movie Expert, brought on to morning show for the occasion.
"Wow. The headline is that Ben Affleck was not nominated."
Anchor, trying to sound knowledgeable, probably based on comments made by the expert while both were awaiting the Oscar nomination remote broadcast:
"Well, Quention Tarantino....."
Movie Expert uncharacteristically talking emphatically, right over the host, instead of the usual deferential pandering:
"NO! The ONLY headline is that Ben Affleck was not nominated for Best Director. That's it. End of story. There is nothing else to be said."
Anchor:
Silence.
LOL, I wonder if that show will be hiring a different movie expert the next time.
Damon and Affleck are great for Boston, including by filming Good Will Hunting and The Town here and showing up here for a lot of Red Sox games.
So, I am with the movie expert. Also with George Clooney, who has made at least one televised crack about failure of "the" Academy to nominate Affleck.
What I will be doing February 24:
j/k I will be praying that the voters of "the" Academy are delivered from their jealousy and/or poor judgment before they make another mistake as huge as this. Also, praying that whoever wins Best Director has the grace to mention the error in failing to nominate Ben Affleck.
j/k again. Like every Ms. America contestant, I pray only for the really big things.
