What happened to our right to a secret ballot?
Edited on Tue Jun-25-13 05:33 PM by No Elephants
I can remember a time--not so long ago, either-- when asking someone who they voted for was considered wildly inappropriate, almost un-American. That little respected zone of privacy and civility has also vanished.

Hi, I'm calling from such and such. I want to urge you to vote on election day. Do you plan to vote?

Yes.

Can so and so count on your vote?

I never discuss my vote with anyone.

Afer a brief stunned silence, caller's initially cheery tone suddenly changes--and not for the better.

Hi. I'm sure you know it's election day.

I'm calling to urge you to go to the polls and vote for so and so.

I've voted already today.

Oh, good. Did you vote for so and so?

I never discuss my vote with anyone.

Afer a brief stunned silence, caller's initially cheery tone suddenly changes--and not for the better.

I am sure the assumption is that I have not voted for so and so, which sometimes, but not always, is the case. I simply resent the question and want my privacy. But, I somehow feel a little notation has been made next to my name.

Creepy.
