Center right chair of the DNC DWS appeared on the Daily Show Wednesday, October 29, to hawk her book, For the Next Generation--you know, the generation for which Obama wants to cut "entitlements," apparently on the theory that OASDI will be bad for them when they are older. (Yes, you guessed it: I don't plan to buy her book. If it's anything like her interview on the Daily Show, it will be deceptive anyway.)
Jon Stewart, a bit out of touch, or a bit deceptive--not sure which, but surprising, either way--seemed to assume that DWS was, "like me," he said, a proponent of social safety nets. (I assume that he includes OASDI in that, even though OASDI is a federal government-mandated insurance program and not a social safety net.) DWS, however, had already been on other TV shows, saying she (like President Obama), is willing to "negotiate" cuts to social safety nets.
Anyhoo, although Stewart missed the mark on including DWS as someone who believes in social safety nets, DWS set him straight (maybe) by saying she believes that government "has a role to play" (whatever the hell that means), but "we cannot rely on government for everything: We have to strike a balance."
Please be more specific. Where's the balance, Ms. current Chair of the Party of FDR and LBJ (allegedly)?
President Clinton boasted of having ended "welfare as we know it."
President Obama entered office promising to cut entitlements. The first budget that he ever sent to Congress cut fuel subsidies for the poor. He has been trying one measure after another since he entered office to cut OASDI and Medicare, both of which are programs for which recipients pay.
He gave us the 2010 Obama tax cuts for the rich, probably with your vote.
He raised his goal of increasing taxes for the rich from people earning to $250K a year to $450K a year, a figure which will bring in little money. There's been no talk of raising the FICA cap. And Democrats like you are supporting him in these things, even lying, as did Ms. Pelosi, that chained CPI is not a cut to OASDI.
Meanwhile, there is endless money for wars and killer drones, for violating the 4th amendment massively and for the behemoth Security State.
So, Ms. deceptive Debbie Wasserman Schultz, where the hell is the balance of which you spoke on the Daily Show? And how come Stewart, who misses nothing, seemed so very out to lunch on this issue?
P.S. Oh, and, when Jon asked DWS why the rollout of Obamacare was so messed up, she blamed Republicans. Yes, House Republicans have been ridiculous about Obamacare, but they did not design Obamacare, or nominate Sebelius (instead of Dean) or hire the people who wrote the software, etc. So, again, we have politicians fueling the R V. D bullshit, failing to be honest with the public, failing to watch out for the public. (Actually, her riff on this was so full of half truths that I cannot note them all, such as implying that Republicans tried to repeal Obamacare forty something times AFTER the poor rollout, rather than working with Democrats to correct problems.)
Amazingly, Jon also seemed to miss that her response was way off the mark.
And that is the head of the DNC, just under Obama, in running the entire Democratic Party. And, she, along with the head of the DCCC and the head of the DSCC, will be deciding who gets DNC money and support in the 2014 primaries.
So, good luck with all that.
Just as an aside, why does it make more sense to cut Medicare than to raise the mandatory monthly premium? I don't think either needs to be done, certainly not before we go single payer and/or put greater controls on ludicrous costs. However, if we are going to go a death panel route, why not raise the premium instead of cutting the program? Obama's plan is to make young healthy people buy insurance, but to cut health insurance for the most sickly population segnment? WTF? Even Heritage Foundationcare isn't that bad.
