Boston Mayor just called for Walsh
Amazing.

The two candidates seemed so alike that pundits were saying voters had trouble telling them apart.

Walsh did not start running until Menino announced that he would not run again (after 20 years as Mayor). Connolly started running before Menino announced.

Both campaigns raised about the same amount of money, Connolly very slightly more. However, Walsh got almost twice as much "outside" money as Connolly. Yet, it "feels" as though Connolly spent more and put more effort into this.

(For once, I rooted for the guy whose campaign raised the most money.)

I did not see many Walsh ads until a few days before the election. Connolly has been running ads all along.

I got exactly two robocalls from the Walsh campaign, one from his mum and one from my rep, and literally scores of live and robo calls from Connolly (5 on election day alone--and I was not even home all day). Yet, Walsh supposed has the better GOTV operation?

But, it's interesting. Jaded as I am, once I picked a favorite from two VERY similar Democratic candidates, I could feel my heart leap whenever I heard good news about his campaign. Why is that? What explains that?

3. Actually, they are both big on charter schools. The guy I favored in the preliminary was not, but
he did not make it to the final.

However, Connolly was getting the charter school association money, so I guess they felt they owned him more, even though his own kids are in public school.

But, at least Walsh is pro-union--and unions are pro-Walsh.

2. I hope things work out for the best.
I will never get very excited about an election again after the national fiasco we have been living through these past years.

4. Just among us chickens, I am starting to see the benefit of leaving things to the states more,
although I am not even optimistic about our ability to impact the states anymore. Even a big city like Boston is not all that responsive to anyone but the money people.
