Warning: some of the photos at the Daily Mail link below are from the Depression.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2236705/Thanksgiving-Beautiful-pictures-America-celebrated-1920s-1930s.htmlIt always touches me incredibly to see how men during the Depression had on the very best clothes that they could manage in order to stand on line for a job or a free meal.
Macy's ParadeInteresting to see the older features of the parades, how ratty some of the older costumes look, etc. Also interesting to see how spectators dressed. And what "the City" used to look like.

http://www.vintag.es/2012/11/macys-thanksgiving-day-parade-balloons.htmlModern-slicker, more produced, but maybe also less charming.
My favorite thing to do on Thanksgiving while cooking. Watch the Today Show, then the parade, then, immediate star the Natalie Wood version of Miracle on 34th Street. I don't always get to do it, but I love when I do.
Bad news: the balloons might not be safe this year. Also, I've heard rumors that Macy's might not do the parade too much longer.
