Steve Harvey Interview of Obama

As best I can tell, show host Steve Harvey is a member of the religious right. He was very polite when he interviewed Obama, but he did raise the issue of Obamacare. Obama said how Social Security and Medicare were criticized as socialist, too, but then people liked them. So it was all just a matter of getting "over the intial hump."

I pay for my Old Age, Survivors and Disability Insurance, aka OASDI, aka Social Security, just like anyone pays for insurance from private companies. If I don't pay enough for that insurance, I am not eligible to collect and must go for SSI.

People pay for Medicare, too, though allegedly not enough to cover the amounts that Medicare has to pay out. That could be solved by a combination of raising the monthly premium some, and also by having people pay more into it while they are working. For one thing, lift the damn cap in some way or another.

Obamacare is very different from OASDI and Medicare, though, in that, with OASDI and Medicare, the government requires me to pay the government for something and, in theory, the goverment does not profit. So, with OASDI and Medicare I am not required by law to help make private entities and their stockholders richer.

So, why did Obama pretend that all three programs were the same?

And they are trying to prove it. The nation is sucking more every day. Can't wait for the next trumped up war.

They've just about convinced me. But....remind me: Once I'm convinced of that, what would be the point of my remaining a Democrat again?

Oh, yeah. Choice and equal rights. But, quite a few third parties are pretty good on those, as well as being good on other issues.

they are not profitable enough to satisfy the Neo-Con chickenhawks.
