I thought it very interesting, even if it did cut out for a commercial when Gates was about to say something significant.

But, I guess that could not have been avoided, given the need to spend a lot of time on the antics of Bieber and Fox.

(Yes, I know it's a comedy show.) Maybe the podcast doesn't cut him off. I haven't watched it yet, but am about to.

But, even the part of the Gates interview that did make it to the broadcast was very interesting to me, so I recommend it.

1. Nope. Cut off in the podcast, too. Oh, well.

2. Thanks. We record all the Daily Show programs.
We watched that one yesterday morning. I liked it too. Chickenhawks are almost the only ones that are pushing for this perpetual war.

3. Gates was saying that the first thing that Presidents do
when there is a problem is reach for a gun. He meant the US military of course, but I thought it an interesting metaphor, given how much Obama supposedly wants gun control.

He also said we assume war can be short. (Didn't we really have only one short war, ever, Desert Storm under Poppy?) That we don' know enough about the country or countries we invade. And so on.

He was just about to say what he thought we needed to do (in relation to war), when Stewart cut to a commercial. So frustrating! I hoped he was allowed to finish his statement and it would be in the podcast, but no.

4. Hopefully Gates
would believe that war should be the absolutely last option. Many in the government seem to have forgotten that.
