House conservatives rule out immigration this year
But several of the conservatives were adamant that the House should do nothing on the issue this year, a midterm election year when the GOP is angling to gain six seats in the Senate and seize majority control. Democrats currently have a 55-45 advantage but are defending more seats, including ones in Republican-leaning states.

"I think it's a mistake for us to have an internal battle in the Republican Party this year about immigration reform," Rep. Raul Labrador, R-Idaho, told reporters at a gathering of conservatives. "I think when we take back the Senate in 2014 one of the first things we should do next year after we do certain economic issues, I think we should address the immigration issue."

Well, that's disgusting, yet refreshing. It's disgusting that they're putting their own interests in re-election and those of their Party ahead of the interests of the nation. But, it's refreshing that they are stupid honest enough to say it out loud.

I guess they are trying to have it both ways--making it seem as though they might do something good after elections, while the best plan they have offered so far creates a class of workers who can't even hope to vote their way out of misery. Another de jure underclass.

1. It is a frightening prospect that the Republicans

could seize majority control in the senate. Very frightening.

They are consistently hypocritical on immigration issue.

2. They want employers to have their pick, but immigrant groups
have historically voted Democratic, with the exception of Cubans; and Republicans definitely don't want more Democratic voters. But, the loyalty of immigrants to Democrats has been changing, which is not surprising, given how the Party has changed.

I really don't even know if new immigrant groups are even voting as a bloc, the way the Cubans and Puerto Ricans did and, before them Italians, European Jews, etc. The old groups of immigrants and the kids they raised here voted Democratic. But, when it came to the next generation, I think they were up for grabs.
