To Quarantine Or Not
As with all NYers, I have been aware of the recent debate and surprisingly, for a lib dem, I may be coming down on the side of quarantine. I know that the illness is not airborne and can’t be transmitted, or so they say, unless you have in some way been involved with the human waste of an infected person. But I also feel an abundance of caution is not unwarranted and it is an opinion formed by a seeming lack of diligence on the part of some of the medical professionals that have contacted the disease. Here’s what I mean… we know that the spiking of the temp. is the primary indicator of a full blown onset of Ebola. But what we’ve also heard is that a sense of fatigue or sluggishness is an indicator/precursor to that onset. Both the infected doctor and nurse had this warning sign yet both chose to actively engage with the public. She flew, twice, visited with her family and went to a bridal store. He was all over NYC, riding the subway, eating at a meatball restaurant, bowling, walking the hyaline and so forth. Now, if we know that sluggishness can be a sign, don’t they, and shouldn’t both of them have used better judgment? If the medical professionals can’t be counted on to use their best judgment, should others do so?
