Low information voter & why they prefer Fox.
Edited on Sun Jan-23-11 09:13 AM by SoCalDem
Low information also means low education. Probably most of these folks never went to college & attended real lectures, where ONE person talks, imparting information, and at the END of what they are saying, may take questions, and add more information

Low information voters may have based their information-gathering skills on their own lives...like information they got at :

bar fights
fiery church sermons
from country western songs
from quarreling parents
arguments at the diner/local hangout
missives from "the coach" (often related to winning at any cost)

The mindset of these people is just different. It's not "information received, analyzed & stored"..

It's all fight-flight, scream-yell, push-punch, and of course weapons are often involved.

The low-information voter seems unable to process information in a meaningful way. They love the loud, boisterous, in-your-face, mean-spirited approach to almost any issue, even if the thing they support will harm them and their own families.

It may also be why every damned "show" on political channels feels compelled to have "both sides" represented, as if they are always trying to woo that non-thinking, irrational low-information voter, by having "one of theirs" on with someone who may actually have vital information to impart.

They rarely ever get that chance because the "other side" does nothing but interrupt, argue, make faces, and spout the daily-spin.

The low info people leave, thinking they have "won", because that "egghead-guy did not get a word in edgewise"....and then they wonder why their water tastes "funny", or why their kid has had a rash for a year, or why they haven't had a raise in a decade..

This does not include the pretenders who have gone to school and who calculatingly play these people for fools, just to stay elected.

3. On Washington Journal, there was a teabagger type who called in this
morning and went on a righteous rant about how everyone was stealin' everything from him and not doing anything for him and that everyone else need to "get real jobs" instead of workin' for the gubmint and stealin' from him and, by God, he's not Homer Simpson. Yes, he said that--he's not Homer Simpson.

4. Holy Moly...
What a black and white snooty elitist stereotype this is...

In case you hadn't noticed a significant portion of the democrat voting "base" is severely under "educated."

So.. just so we are clear. Only those on the right get in fights, go to church, listen to country music with all its wicked messages, have parents who fight, have conversations at diners/local hangouts and of course play sports.

Jesus Criminy..

8. Elitist... interesting word...
I am so damn tired of people who use education and reason in their decision-making being branded as elitist.

OK... I'm an elitist. That would be bad in what way?

Should I be accepting of people who use their lack of education, their willful ignorance, and their faith-based opinions? Should I accept those people when they are destroying the country not only for themselves, but for the rest of us?

13. Right...
... cause only those who have a degree can have meaningful insight into the political scene. They just don't get it. At least not like you with that big massive brain...

Also, don't forget my other point. A significant portion of the democrat base wouldn't meet your standard of "educated" either.

18. I never mentioned a degree...
you are setting up straw men with that bullshit.

Never said my brain was massive, either.

You certainly know how to argue your point... straw men, ad hominem bullshit...

Uneducated or undereducated people who vote Democratic aren't voting against their own interests.

Try dealing with just one point... The willfully ignorant - "I have an opinion, a closed mind, and I refuse to learn anything about the issue."

I will forever call those people stupid.

20. Just keep on backin up...
Also, you still never explained how only folks on the right who participate in the following:

bar fights
fiery church sermons
from country western songs
from quarreling parents
arguments at the diner/local hangout
missives from "the coach" (often related to winning at any cost)

are affected when folks from the left magically are left unharmed.

29. What the fuck are you talking about?
Do you have the mistaken notion that I had the OP on this thread.

Re-read what I said...

"I am so damn tired of people who use education and reason in their decision-making being branded as elitist.
OK... I'm an elitist. That would be bad in what way?
Should I be accepting of people who use their lack of education, their willful ignorance, and their faith-based opinions? Should I accept those people when they are destroying the country not only for themselves, but for the rest of us?"

Where the fuck did I mention church sermons or bar fights?

My biggest source of frustration are people who are willfully ignorant. Want to defend them?

Look at the career of KKKarl Rove. He made a living off of this mass of hateful idiots.
But you just can't come out and say it....because ...well....because it's not polite? And we need
to treat those who speak of second amendment remedies politely, ...right?

Good post...good for you !

14. I just returned from a bar full of low information voters
Bunch of grown men and women sitting around getting shit faced while dressed in their Chicago Bear and Hawks regalia squealing like little kids every time one of the Hawks players got near the opposing teams net with the puck.

I was just thinking about what you just wrote and have concluded that yep, we are fucked.

It's only about a billion times more important than football goals.

I hate sports crises. Although the Tour de France was a great event before it became hugely profitable.

23. Glitter news.
I like this discussion. It's crucial to saving not just our country, but our planet. It's a modern world, not the old one where you either ran from the gorilla, or got eaten. It's complex. Hardened valves going up and down, machined gears turning corporate factory lines.

We have to be far more intelligent and careful in order to avoid what is happening right now. We're melting the planet. We need to know exponential growth, which means we all need to know at least algebra. And not just passing a class. KNowing it. Using it. Because we are heading down a massive suffering zone.

Oops. Didn't mean to blast at you. I just got carried away. :)

26. Those low information voters that I know don't watch news shows.
I have known voters who did nothing to know a thing about politics, but just go to the polls to voter straight party (either party) because that is what their parents/spouses/friends have told them is best. There is a difference behind narrow-minded voters and low information voters. I fear the people who cannot tell me what the issues are, who represents them, or who is on the ballot more than the ones who are swayed by news shows.

BTW, I am also offended by the stereotypes in this OP.
