haven't you heard?

no really - he was saying how NO ONE has said anything to him about how to run his show, and he doesn't see it happening in the future.

And Comcast had absolutely nothing to do with Keith's departure.

Is he trying to convince himself, or us?

12. Both, maybe, but more likely us, since he should be worried that Keith's departure will hurt MSNBC.
I probably won't be watching often (if at all) any more. I find O'Donnell boring much of the time, and I don't know if I'd have watched Rachel as often if she hadn't followed Keith. I expect all their ratings to drop. Especially if they do dial it back, fearful after what happened to Keith.

11. So they'll be Comcast's tame little liberals?
God knows I saw enough articles over the weekend about Comcast and NBC assuming their audience will be tame liberals willing to accept Keith being forced out and still staying loyal to MSNBC, whatever lineup is offered by the corporate bosses.

23. I think it
is fair to say that we can take a measure of character. Without doubt, the corporatists will be.

My guess is that the only one who might challenge the machine now is Rachel. Yet I understand that there have been a series of "challengers" who have been made examples. If we think of our own experiences in workplaces where those who have a high level of principles get axed, and consider how the rest of the workplace responds, we can appreciate what I mean when I say character.

He's just happy about his new timeslot. I don't see anything wrong with that. Let's not blame everyone on MSNBC for what happened to Keith. We've already lost one major progressive voice, so I'd hate to lose another in Ed. Even though we LOVE Keith, life does go on for everyone else.

19. I didn't get that feeling either -
I tuned in to hear what he had to say.

From listening to Ed over the years, I expected he would approach the subject with the best possible take he could have on it for him personally, and that's what he did. Evidently, he's gotten a lot of mail over the weekend from those that are afraid he was going to have to tone himself down for his new time slot. He just seemed to be reassuring everyone that he won't change, hasn't been asked to change and is going to adapt to the opportunity. I don't see anything wrong with him seeing this as an opportunity for himself and for getting himself seen in prime time around the country. He said his days will be longer but that he'll still do his radio show and it will be a 4 day a week Ed Show on TV but that he'd do Fridays if he's asked.

 It's the way Ed is... no surprises.

18. Well, I'm screwed blue and tattooed.
Because they took Big Ed's radio show off the station here 6 weeks before the 2008 election because they thought too many tater haids would vote for the black guy.
And now they've moved Big Ed's show -- which I love -- clear to the later time of night, about the time I pass out and start dreaming I'm with Barbarella (who doesn't?).

So, this sux for me.

21. AMEN, Cat!!!
I head this claptrap in the car whilst doing some errands.

I heard the first bit and seethed.

Did he/has he ever ONCE mentioned Keith? Did he/has he ONCE mentioned that if it weren't for the intelligent, snarky, exceedingly handsome and MISSED Keith Olbermann, his ass would still be an unheard-of entity on satellite radio?

And, so would have Rachel. Lawrence O'Donnell was know, but he's certain too centrist to put in my cup of tea (no pun intended).

the highest radio ratings of any liberal talk host. His ratings dwarfed anyone on Air America.

30. Key words, "of any liberal talk show host."
I realize you're in New York, but here in "fly-over" country we don't GET liberal radio unless we pay for it - so most people I live and work around, liberal or otherwise, didn't have a clue who he was until he began hosting a show on MSNBC.

His ratings may have been excellent compared with other liberal radio show hosts, but when that pool is so limited, the numbers are far less than they would appear to those in cities with liberal radio.

That said: I like Ed, but, CatWoman is right - he shouldn't be so thrilled about it, given that the guy who paved the way is out like day old bread.

I am going to miss Keith so much, I'm already gearing up to cry and it's no where near 8 p.m. EST yet.

40. I don't know too much about radio here in NY since I didn't
listen to it before Air America and don't listen to it after Air America (and I think Schultz' radio show has never played here in NYC).

But Wikipedia's entry said that his radio show has a weekly audience of over 3 million. That compares — and perhaps surpasses — Olbermann's TV ratings.

I don't want them to pack up and go home or to spend time thanking Keith. Yes, Ed briefly mentioned Keith. I heard Stephanie Miller this morning say that she talked with Ed and he said he didn't know much and couldn't talk about it if he did learn about the details.

I love Keith and can't wait to see what he goes to next. I'm not a fan of Lawrence, so my 8 o'clocks are going to change.

25. Ed's Show Is Doomed At The New Time Slot.......
In the CST he now comes on at 5pm. People are just getting home from work and turn on the TV and Ed - being he is the big advocate for the working class - refreshing to watch after putting in a hard day at work kissing corporate ass. They identify with his rants and it certainly goes well with a cocktail or beer before dinner.

By moving Ed to the later time slot - he will be up against more prime time programming and by that time the corporate ass kissers are settled in and watching CSI, Law & Order, The Good Wife, etc and just want to veg out.

I think MSNBC/Comcast is putting Ed in this time slot to facilitate his demise. His ratings will go down at this new time and they'll have a good excuse to deep six his program.

Ed is probably trying to make the best of a bad situation. He's got a taste of TV Talking Head stardom and I'm sure he doesn't want it to end. So I can see him spinning this the way he is.

He won't know what hit him. It will be interesting to see how he handles this.

It will also be interesting to see what happens to Rachel. How will they try and control her program?
