She reminds me of Alan Shore if he was a Democrat.

5. If You Don't Mind A Complete And Utter Lack Of Realism
I liked "The Practice" and "Boston Legal" (both David E. Kelley shows) because they were entertaining AND there was at least a TINGE of realism to them. Speaking as an attorney who practices law in Ohio (in Columbus, not in Cincinnati) "Harry's Law" is complete fantasy when it comes to the courtroom stuff. I know that Kelley has a legal background, and that is why "The Practice" and "Boston Legal" were so good. He has apparently checked all that at the door with this new show.

I love Kathy Bates (I think she's perfect for the character), but am I REALLY supposed to believe she can try a case where her client commits an armed robbery a liquor store ON VIDEOTAPE, present no real defense other than, "she did it because she was poor, and look at her, doesn't she remind you of your grandma?" and get a Not Guilty verdict? I was already wavering on this show when, in the pilot, she represented a guy who bought drugs from an undercover officer, once again, provided NO defense at his trial (even admitted he was guilty in her closing argument) and got the Judge to put a 3-time loser on probation because she convinced him that her client was "a nice kid"?

And I particularly liked it when Kathy Bates' character stood up during the Prosecutor's examination of a witness and directly engaged him (the Prosecutor, not the witness) in like a 5-minute debate on the merits of legalizing drugs WHILE THE WITNESS WAS ON THE STAND, and the Judge sat there and allowed it to happen.

Do people really believe that this is actually what goes on in courtrooms in this country?

Oh, and by the way, Alan Shore WAS a Democrat; it was Denny Crane who was the Republican.

8. rather be delusional with tv show than with the right side of the world
that believes they don't have government healthcare when they have medicare
or that they aren't using government programs when they take the mortgage deduction, drive on the roads or go to the library

or that obama because he is black is not a citizen

allow me my fantasy and belief that good things can happen to good people who get caught up in a crappy world created by the other side.

Do I really believe it? I like to think somehow somewhere there is a Santa Clause that cares about people and allows good things to happen - it is like reading a good romance novel and believing there are .......

I'll take the fantasy since we aren't allow the real thing on tv or in real life

"Harry's Law": Has David E. Kelley finally run out of steam?

The disastrous "Harry's Law" combines bad farce with serious social issues -- and wastes the talents of Kathy Bates

BY MATT ZOLLER SEITZ
Salon
MONDAY, JAN 24, 2011

"It's funny that writer-producer David E. Kelley keeps making shows about cynical careerists who rediscover their ideals, because on his shows you often see the same trajectory happening in reverse. Any given episode of any given Kelley series is a 12-car pileup on the Anything Goes freeway, mixing politically correct posturing, harangues disguised as legal summations, wacky ethnic characters, kinky sex and tabloid luridness. The creator of "The Practice," "Ally McBeal," "Boston Public" and "Boston Legal" is smart and prolific and capable of surprise, and he's unafraid to court controversy, but does he stand for anything except industry success? I'm sure he'd insist otherwise, and would point to all the legal concepts his law series have introduced to American television, and all the hot-button issues they've dealt with. But to me, Kelley's shows embody the sneering stereotype of network TV in the '60s and 70s, when most of it was stupefyingly bad and boring and safe: There's a flurry of activity each week, but nothing really happens, and the characters are inconsistent, often nonsensical, doing and saying whatever they have to do or say in order to hold our attention and fill up the space between commercials."

16. Have you watched TV lately?
What popular shows are realistic?

The show seems like it's trying to hard to be quirky and different. Maybe it will find its footing in a few more episodes. Kathy Bates is awesome. Nice to have an older, heavier woman as the main character.

13. It won't last. It is too much of a soapbox for
liberal ideas and opinions. Someone at the top will kill the show.

And what TV courtroom show is ever realistic? Real court is boring.

14. Better!
(than Boston Legal) IMO

I recorded episode 1 and just now forced my daughter and her boyfriend to watch it (hoping they would love it and want to watch tonight's episode with me).

Of course, they didn't want anything to do with it, and moaned and groaned as they started watching (only to please me). They are now, as I type this, yelling at me to hurry and get my butt downstairs so they can watch episode 2.

Great show! Going down to watch now.

15. A realistic show would involve lawyers getting drunk at lunch and spending the rest of the day
on the internet posting pornographic links and complaining about their lives.

17. Yes, it's fun but it's a Fairy tale.
Same like every other show on "prime time".
Check your brain at the door and get out the kleenex.

20. She claims to have made $600K a year as a patent lawyer
If she saved and invested then it's likely she can do without income for a while.
