BOURNE — Jeffrey Perry, whose career as a Wareham police officer ended 17 years ago amid a department scandal, is now back in law enforcement at the Barnstable County Sheriff's Department.
Perry, 47, began his job Monday as special sheriff, the second in command, at the Barnstable County Correctional Facility. The former Republican state representative from Sandwich is being paid $110,000 per year for the job, which has gone unfilled for at least two years.
"As a former police officer, state legislator and an attorney — those are all things that are going to benefit us at the sheriff's department," Republican Barnstable County Sheriff James Cummings said Monday.
The job was not posted and Perry was the sole applicant, Cummings said.
