13. yeah, it's weird that they nominated her for best actress in a supporting role

when one of the main ideas behind even doing the remake was to make it more clearly her story, rather than Cogburn's.

10. Well they tend to do very well, so I'm guessing that while you aren't the only one

there are plenty who disagree.

I don't know - I am in favor of studying both those on top and those down below, societally speaking. But this guy is at a historically interesting point, and after listing to Mayo and Kermode talk about him, I think it's probably more important than I had originally thought. Plus the movie is purportadly very good.

12. Tell you what, just go to see it (OK, I'll double dare ya) and give it the benefit of a doubt.

The acting, the script and direction are just terrific. And really the whole idea, that of a person overcoming a handicap, is humanly interesting, whatever you think of the royal family. The king doesn't come across as a big hero (his flaws are evident, no sugar coating). He knew what was coming, with another world conflict and the rise of Nazism. When his irresponsible brother abdicated, the guy was in a bind. He HAD to lead the nation, even tho he fervently didn't want to. It is this conflict within him that makes the movie so ultimately satisfying as dramatic fare. You don't have to be a fan of the royals (I am definitely NOT) to appreciate this film...

Haven't heard of any of the other films at all.

Are a lot of those movies pretentious bores like The English Patient?

8. 127 Hours is good - about the guy hiking who cuts off his arm after it gets stuck

I don't think it had a wide release in regular theaters, but we saw it in an "art house" type theater, but yeah I don't remember even seeing any commercials or advertising for it or anything.

7. Where's "Despicable Me?"

9. I saw a lot of these

And I have to say that I hope anything...and I mean ANYTHING beats the overhyped dull and whiny film that is "The Social Network."

I do not get the love for that film at all. Awful.

I was happy Winter's Bone got some nominations--excellent film. Gritty. Real.

Black Swan was predictible and heavy handed but Portman was great.

127 Hours was okay but not great.

I loved Bridges in True Grit and Steinfeld. Great casting all around. But the novel, despite what the Coens say is essentially the same story told in the John Wayne version and it doesn't make for a great film(lots of internal dialogue in the book that doesn't transfer to film particularly well).

My films of the year were Inception and Shutter Island and Dicapprio should have gotten a nomination for one of them.

One film I haven't seen yet but really want to is The Fighter.
