1. I have a question about Twitter. If I follow you, for example, does that automatically

send your tweet to me? Or do I need to go to your page to see what you've posted?

I was so disillusioned/bored by Facebook I never even bothered with Twitter.

Yes, it automatically goes out to you. But, unless they choose to follow you, your tweets don't go to them unless you specifically address them.

just like facebook. YOu can also link your facebook profile to twitter. For me the computer is enough.

Mine go right to my Blackberry through my text message/SMS service. I can also send Tweets as texts so that I never have to open an app.

during SOTU: Not "Where are the jobs?" - BUT INSTEAD - "Mr. President, bring ***OUR*** jobs home!"

I like this meme, not only because it alludes to Trade policy reform, but because it also implies that they are OUR jobs, because we paid for them by subsidizing the upper income brackets by paying their taxes for them, while they took Tax Breaks predicated on jobs for us, but without enough net increase in jobs, not to mention flat wages and benefits.

28. For those new to Twitter, or interested, some tips:

If you have an iPhone, you can download Twitteriffic (I think it's free, if I recall correctly), or TweetDeck (definitely free). I believe these apps are also available on Blackberry, Android, etc.

If you have a PC/MAC, you can just go to Twitter.com to read/post tweets. You can also download Tweetdeck for the PC (by the way, this app will also let you see your Facebook stuff on the same screen you see your Twitter info).

If you sign up for a new account and you're not sure who you want to follow, consider looking at the follow lists for people you respect. For example, when I initially signed up, I stole about half of Rachel Maddow's follow list. It's a good, fast way to find people you know you'll be interested in. By the same token, if you love quilt making, start following the diva of quilt making (whomever that may be), and see who that person is following.

Mini-glossary:

RT: retweet. You're repeating what someone else has already said.

MT: Modified retweet. This just means that with the 140-character limit, the person couldn't fit all the previous tweet, along with their own addition, so they've somehow abbreviated the post even further, resulting in an MT.

#: this is a "hashtag" on Twitter. It's nothing more than a keyword symbol. Although I haven't looked, #Egypt and #SOTU are probably big hashtags today. Write on Twitter about Egypt, and you may want to include #Egypt in the post, so that others interested in the subject can find it. Example tweet: AP says 100 teargas canons used in #Egypt. || END EXAMPLE. I used #Egypt as both the hashtag, and as the object of a preposition in the sentence itself.
