6. Guess I didn't notice they weren't there.....I thought they always were.
.........sort of like mandatory....guess not. After all, it seems they feel like they are above it all.

17. Several of the Justices skip the SOTU every year.
Edited on Tue Jan-25-11 11:08 PM by former9thward
Scalia, Thomas and Ginsberg never attended any of Bush's. Stevens never attended any president's SOTU.

16. Scalia has not been there since 1997. Thomas since 1999.

8. Nope.
And after Alito's showing out at last years SOTU, I'm sure he isn't missed.

9. I knew Scalia wouldn't be there. He declared that a few months ago. Pathetic.

18. Did you say that when Stevens and Ginsberg did not attend any Bush SOTU?
Several Justices skip the SOTU every year no matter who is president. It has never been considered a mandatory event.

15. I get the sense that Kennedy is swinging more moderate.
In a lot of ways, he seems to be distancing himself from conservatives. Many posters on DU don't realize that the great liberal lion in his last decade on the bench, John Paul Stevens, once voted with a conservative block. Roberts seems to have calmed some, maybe having two new brainy and energetic justices counter pointing his arguments is causing him to rethink some.

13. Well Thomas should never go cause he is neither supreme nor judicious.
Clarence Thomas is one sorry ass excuse for a supreme court justice or a supreme pan pizza.

20. Scalito telegraphed his punch and said he wasn't coming
I posted an article yesterday about how Roberts and Scalito were "thinking about" staying home. I'm guessing Thomas stayed home because of the stories about not reporting his wife's teabaggin' income. Or maybe he just had a lot of Coke cans that needed cleaning.
