I think this is a good analogy of what we see happening in response to various DUers' reactions to the SOTU.

I've watched several threads, replied in a couple, in which we're getting various takes on the SOTU. Almost every response reflects the Democratic principles of the poster.

This is what it is to be part of the "big tent" party.

As Will Rogers said, "I am not a member of any organized party—I am a Democrat."

I think the reaction to tonight's SOTU is, indeed, a Rorschach Test of Democratic Principles.

Can we accept that and continue? Is it time to split?

As long as the choice of Democratic officials is to take corporate money,

7. Before the dlc there were the Bourbon Dems and the Dixiecrats.

As much as I'd love to be able to point to just one influence, I think it's beyond time we realize that business interests have existed in the Democratic Party for a long time. As well as "establishment" versus "anti-establishment" (establishment=status quo).

If we can agree this is true, 'if' being a huge impediment, what next?

which is what we have with DLC and its intention to move the Democratic

Party to the right -- is that what you want?

Dixiecrats were racist --

Bourbons were supporting Pres. Grover Cleveland --

DLC is something quite different --

Ironically, this past election with $4 billion coming into to buy the election,

for every $7 that the Repugs got -- Dems got $1 --

And after all Obama did for them!

I would suggest they could re-establish the party if they simply gave up that $1 --

We are now in a position where pretty much every elected officials is pre-bribed and

pre-owned by corporations --

There's no Left in the US, but the two parties are presented as representations of left v right.

By accepting that presupposition people have no choice but to project as needs be.

That's why SOTUs seem more and more "corporate" to me. The CEO giving a rousing Power Point kinda thingy for the interested stockholders and the disengaged line staff. Everyone simultaneously expects and fears hearing something outside his/her comfort zone, and no one is either pleased or disappointed. Weird.

Which is why I beat cant trust em about the head and shoulders and wrested the idea from him(?) and ripped it from his hands and forced him to to let me claim the idea as mine.

I like your description. It explains what I've been feeling about these for a while; our gradual slide into the business model as governance. You call it weird, I call it creepy. We really do have a couple of generations who think the business model is an acceptable way of dealing with people. Creepy...and sad.
