Did the GOP write the Bachmann response?
Her programme was nuts, a balanced budget amendment may have been somewhat more appropriate some 10 years ago, especially given that her Party "Roadmap" will not return the US to a balanced budget until 2063. (That's not a plan it's wishful thinking that things will eventually come right some time never). She blamed President Obama for all of the ills in the World. She claimed that the 69 million people who voted for the President did so because they wanted spending cut. (Really?)

She however did not descend to the crazy that she is apt to do. There was no birther rubbish. There was no screaming about Commies taking over America.

All of the expectation about crazy suddenly made her "reply" reasonable. Those who wrote her speech managed the expectations well.

1. Did anyone notice, she had Tammy Faye Bakker do her eyelashs, and makeup?
She has now fully transitioned into GOP Stepford Wife.

6. The Iwo bit was a calculated dog whistle
From the beginning, the far right has demonized this President as an existential threat to America--a socialist, commie, fascist secret Muslim who wants to destroy America and wants the terrorists to win.

Bachmann's Iwo bit wasn't the non sequitur it seemed to be. Following her criticism of the President, she evoked the image of America rising up to defeat a "totalitarian aggressor"--and in the minds of her followers, Barack Obama is the totalitarian aggressor of today.

Look again at what she said:

"Just the creation of this nation itself was a miracle. Who can say that we won't see a miracle again? The perilous battle that was fought during World War II in the Pacific at Iwo Jima was a battle against all odds, and yet this picture immortalizes the victory of young GIs over the incursion against the Japanese. These six young men raising the flag came to symbolize all of America coming together to beat back a totalitarian aggressor."

4. If they did, then the GOP screwed up
Some of her talking points were a direct reversal of the offical Rep rebuttal.

one example. Ryan talking about changing the economic course and not doing "business as usual" (like two years is a usual?). He also mentioned that Obama took over a plunging economy...to me clearly stating that the previous administration's "buisiness as usual" was a total failure. But then Bachmann wanted to to back to Bush politicies where everyone was happier and financially content. She wants "business as usual"...the Bush usual. The GOP aare all over the place. There is a decided lack of cohesion in philosophical idealisms..
