Poll question: Isolationism (per wiki definition) - Good, bad, or indifferent?

Isolationism is a foreign policy adopted by a nation in which the country refuses to enter into any alliances, foreign trade or economic commitments, or international agreements, in hopes of focusing all of its resources into advancement within its own borders while remaining at peace with foreign countries by avoiding all entanglements of foreign agreements. In other words, it asserts both of the following:

Non-interventionism – Political rulers should avoid entangling alliances with other nations and avoid all wars not related to direct territorial self-defense.
Protectionism – There should be legal barriers to control trade and cultural exchange with people in other states.

North Korea is isolated. And in poverty.

Look, it's not like the PTB aren't on your side. The President himself was talking your precious free trade up big time at the SOTU last night. Just stop trying to sell the swill to us. We have eyes that can see the jobs going away and communities destroyed across the country.

I thought the definition of isolationism that wiki provided was a fair representation of the beliefs of lots of DU'ers and the answers were not "loaded". Perhaps I should post a neutrally-worded (I hope) poll on globalization and see how that turns out. (I doubt either of us would be surprised at the result in that kind of poll.) ;)

I'm glad that, AFAIK, President Obama and I agree on this and don't really see the need to curtail any expressions of my support for his position just because he is now a PTB.

As for me.

Protectionism = Good

Economic Nationalism = Good

If it means imports will cost more: Good. It should be considered a tax of on those that eventually undermine the economy.

There. I said it. 'Cause sometimes hard extreme action, while not the intended result, is necessary to break through the inertia of the status quo.
