OK, the shooting of Congresswoman Giffords wasn't the perfect textbook example of stochastic terrorism, because Jared Loughner's motives and influences are obscured by his mental disorders. I do still think that he was influenced by right-wing media, even though the connection to right-wing violent rhetoric is not direct.
BUT... Here's a new, very direct example. The dots are connected easily here.
Remember a few days ago, when Rush Limbaugh did the "ching-chong" routine to mock Hu Jintao, and all Chinese people by extension?
California State Senator Leland Yee called him out, and said "His classless act is an insult to over 3,000 years of cultural history, and is a slap in the face to the millions of Chinese Americans who have struggled in this country and to a people who constitute one-quarter of the world's population."
Limbaugh doubled down, dismissing Yee's criticism.
And look what happens... According to Media Matters:
Now, less than a week later, Lee has reported receiving numerous racially charged death threats, including one fax addressed to "Fish Head Leeland Yee" that stated in part: "Rush Limbaugh will kick your Ch*nk ass and expose you for the fool you are."
http://mediamatters.org/blog/201101270030Radio Rush-wanda strikes again!
This is clear, direct evidence of stochastic terrorism at work - the psychopath directly referred to Rush in his death threats to Yee. For Rush, Russian Roulette is far more fun when he points the gun at other people's heads. Rush put a round in the revolver, spun the cylinder, pointed it at Leland Yee, and pulled the trigger. Do that enough times, and eventually the gun will fire.
Can we ship that terrorist to Gitmo yet?
