What does the MS stand for in MSNBC?
I have always wondered this.

Anyone know what the MS stands for?

Probably something really simple but I can't figure it out.

8. microsoft, correct
The history of this is fuzzy in my mind, but back in the 90's NBC and Microsoft merged, or one bought the other or some such, to create this cable channel.

It was a partnership to create a cable news channel that would also have a web presence (MSNBC.com). At the time in 1996, it was a novel idea for a cable news network to also have a web outlet. Now, not so much...

11. When MSNBC statrted it was heavy into tech and the new internet.
Microsoft brought in the tech and NBC brought the news into it.
