to turn the guns on it's own people, and I'm talking on a large scale. It would be complete world condemnation. Despite the terrible murders that have already taken place, so far those have been, and I hate to use this term, isolated incidences.

Mubarak to step down and get the flock outta Dodge. I'm sure the US' intent is to leave it all in the hands of the VP, wrongly thinking that the problem is Mubarak. Not surprising that they're not getting yet that they're not the ones in charge anymore. The smarmy language from the US is to buy time. When all is said and done, the WH will "embrace the Egyptian Democratic movement." Watch and see.

I'd like to take this occasion to thank PFC Bradley Manning for his incredible courage that really got the Wikileak whisteblowing rolling, all the courageous people of conscience who turned in documents, the incredicle courage of the Tunisians and, most of all, the young man who started all this when he burned himself out of despair over unfair economic practices that prevented him from even selling a few fruits on the street corner to survive.

"A source from within the Presidential Guard has claimed to my friends in Cairo that the army intends to end the protests on Sunday, by any means necessary even if it meant violence and bloodshed. The Muslim Brotherhood has called for a "national salvation government". This is very significant according to our Middle East editor Ian Black.

Sensational political developments in Cairo, with reports that five opposition movements, including the key Muslim Brotherhood, have mandated Mohammed ElBaradei to negotiate over the formation of a temporary "national salvation government."

Osama Ghazlai Harb of the National Democrsatic Front told BBC Arabic that this would be a transitional administration that would oversee the cancellation of the emergency laws and the release of all political prisoners.

The powerful Muslim Brotherhood, which has kept a low profile so far, said it was backing the demand along with other four groups.

It seems unlikely at this stage that the Mubarak government will agree to negotiate with to ElBaradei, but the publication of the demand adds a significant new element to Egypt's rapidly unfolding political crisis.

It just all depends on who's showing what. They've very clearly said two new things today, "What happens in Egypt is up to the Egyptian people" and "The must be a peaceful transition of power." Without actually saying the words, they've told Mubarak it's time to step aside. I think as the day goes on, we'll hear cleared language on the situation. For example, as it gets later in the evening and the Army actually starts turning on the people, I think the US' words will become very forceful.

That said, I think the Obama admin would be using even more forceful language if there was a clear path to leadership to take over for Mubarak (and I believe that Soliman doesn't do it for us). I think the groups that are behind these demonstrations, who are calling for ElBaradei to head an interim government, are getting the exact same message.

I see three scenarios...

#1 Mubarak doesn't go anywhere and Egypt descends into an extended period of unrest. The Army refuses to arrest Mubarak and refuses to engage the crowd.

#2 Mubarak steps down and anoints either the Gamal or Suleiman as President. The protests continue and the standoff goes on indefinitely.

#3 Mubarak steps down or is arrested by the Army. ElBaradei assumes a leadership position for a transitional government.

Live square shots on now, no tanks, no soldiers, only an ever-increasing crowd defying the curfew for the 3rd straight night.

Currently AJ is interviewing a reporter from another city under siege there. Lack of infrastructure supply after 6 days of unrest is starting to put a strain on the conditions on both sides, the people and what is left of the government. No firemen, no food deliveries, running out of fuel. People are being worried about further breakdowns.

All that being said, none of them want Mubarek to stay. Stress fatigue is beginning to set in.

but cell service seems to be back up for some of the more rural parts of the country - just heard from my sister in Abydos, first time in 4 days. The locals seem to be concerned but the "politics" are more mixed - some are fine with TPTB and others want change. She was in a public courtyard so couldn't speak to plainly, but that is one perspective from outside of the big city.
