I cannot stand Charlie Rose and I watched *none* of the interviews. At least not more than a five minute fragment or so. It takes that long for Charlie to render me unconscious.

But there are some here who do watch him. To those brave souls I put this question: has Rose , at any time asked Mubarek about the state of human rights in Egypt under his regime?


This is country which rates 137th on the Economist rankings of nations with regard to human rights. Behind China, Cuba, Haiti, Honduras qnd Iraq..... among many other citadels of freedom.

I guess people who really do their homework knew this stuff. I did not.

I'll blame myself, of course... but also I suspect I get a lot of help from PBS, Bloomberg and Charlie Rose.

1. I can remember Murbarak being more than ticked because he

had been accused of Human Rights Abuses. In the
90s he was warning about the coming Religious Fundamentalism
and the dangers of terrorism. He was on a mission
to rid his country of terrorism and was frustrated
that he perceived other countries did not take the
threat of Terrorism as seriously as he did. Getting rid
of terrorists was his explanation.

I am sure Presidents and others have talked Human Rights
to every leader in the Middle East. The Leaders there
through the years have insisted "Stability" as their
governing priority. Kinda like China. All of these
are sovereign countries--In the end the country decides.
The US can suggest but the Country decides. It appears
that we have needed their cooperation on many issues
and we had to deal with the Leader of the Country, even
if we do not agree with their governing philosophy.

We intervened in Iraq and have been there 10 years.Democracy
has many meanings to many different people. There is not
going to be Democracy as we believe in the Middle East
anytime soon.
